Hazard Surveillance Inspections

One of the key and important aspects of a good safety process is establishing a system to assess and monitor safety conditions on an ongoing basis. To achieve this goal, RMU has implemented a Hazard Surveillance Inspection (HSI) process. Formal HSIs will be coordinated by the Safety Department and will include physical inspections within all RMU facilities.

The purpose of these inspections is to assess all areas/operations for possible deficiencies, hazards or unsafe work practices. Additionally, the process includes a documented plan for correction. The inspections will be conducted by a team which includes representatives from Safety, Facilities/Building Maintenance and Environmental Services. A representative from the department being inspected will also be invited to participate in the inspection. Upon completion of the inspection, a report identifying each of the deficiencies will be prepared and sent to the responsible administrator, who is responsible for the completion of corrective actions.

Our goal is to inspect all facilities annually. Visit our new Safety Web Page and find the 2006 schedule identifying which month each facility will be inspected. For more information, please contact the Safety Department at (412) 397-2424.
